An Overview of Slayer
Introduction
Slayer is a combat-based skill, where XP is awarded for killing the monsters assigned to you by a Slayer Master, with harder monsters generally giving more XP. Slayer is a great way for the player to earn GP and combat XP while progressing their account, and can be trained using both low-effort and high-effort methods.
The Basics of Slaying
Overview
⬥ Early Slayer Assignments offer low XP rates, which can be avoided with other methods, such as squashing Scarabs in Menaphos and completing Reaper tasks
⬥ Generally, using the highest levelled Slayer Master is recommended, with the exception of Mandrith who only offers Wilderness tasks.
⬥ Cluster assignments are highly valued as they allow you to fight monsters above your level for high XP rates, e.g. fighting Greater Demon Berserkers for a "Demons" task.
⬥ AFKing assignments sacrifices XP rates for convenience, actively Slaying will always grant the player higher XP rates.
⬥ Most Slayer Masters have a chance of offering the player a unique assignment which they may accept or decline, these often give good reward for the effort needed to complete them.
• Notable special assignments are Laniakea's, which is well worth the effort, Morvran's, which should be completed only once for the Completionist Cape, and the Raptor's, which is also involved in a Completionist Cape requirement.
Utilizing Slayer Points
Slayer Points are obtained by successfully completing Slayer Assignments with the amount given depending on the Slayer Master used. If you ever find yourself wanting to quickly obtain Slayer Points, you can find our guide on farming them in #Slayer Point Farming Guide.
⬥ As for how to spend Slayer Points, our order of priority is:
• Building a block/prefer list and upgrading your Slayer Helmet
• Unlocking any desired Slayer Assignments, such as Nightmare Creatures.
• Quality of life unlocks such as quicker killing blows and attaching items to your Toolbelt.
Managing Your Block/Prefer List
The Block & Prefer list is a very powerful tool which can be used to focus your Slaying on monsters that grant great reward, while ignoring those which the player deems a waste of time or not fun to slay. You can find our guide on finding the best block/prefer list for you in #Block Prefer List.
Presets and Relics
⬥ These presets and relics are examples of what the player may bring on their assignment.
• Specific relic setups and aura usage are included in our monster guides, you can view our general recommendations with the !relics
